No More Shopping For July

My new Prada Nappa Stripes Clutch
My new Marc Jacobs bag
Any of you out there who would like to purchase Marc Jacobs in Singapore.
Go to down to DFS or the BlackJack boutique at Forum.

And if you like Benefit cosmetics from San Francisco, they have just launched in Singapore at Robinsons at Raffles Place. Though the products selection lacked big time. Last Friday they were giving out little pink Benefit mini carriers with a lollipop and sweets stuffed inside accompanied with a postcard that allowed for a free 5 min consultation at the Benefit counter. I personally found no relevance with lollies and makeup. Hello marketing team!? But anyhoo, I bought a very candy pink lip gloss from there called No Peeking. The colour goes on bright pink, not like your usual translucent coloured glosses around. The Scent it gives off: Apricot Lychee. Yum! So no regrets with this lip gloss.

Why? Why? Why?

Would my name across a certificate make me happy, always? No, it probably would not.It was unfair to leave so I stayed. I thought long and hard. I made trips back and forth to tell myself, 'Is this what you really want?' And everytime a trip was made, I was longing to get home. At last, I could make no trips no more, the final verdict was to stay. I sometimes wonder if fate had permitted this, that I finish that part of my life. It's finished now. Gone. I have hurt a few hearts and probably made them angry at my decision too. Shall I call it regret, no, cause if I had settled there, I might have regretted it. Call me selfish, but I have a right to happiness as well.

The Shift Dress In Different Prints

I can imagine myself wearing this this floral shift dress. on a Saturday morning, with yellow flats on the way to buy baking supplies and a Vogue Living magazine. Though, it is a little pricey at US$430.

This grey sateen dress makes me feel like ordering it right now!Look at the roses that adorn the collar of the dress. And they have it in a size 0.

This black shift dress with white embroidery is also on my Consider List.
This is how it looks like on the model. (Please see pic above) You can purchase them at http://www.anthropologie.com. They now ship international to a selected few countries.(34 countries) Singapore is not on the list though so I guess http://www.ishop-america.com is my only hope. ishop-america, for all those are not familiar, is a site that allow for countries outside of the USA, to order from American sites who do not deliver out of the USA. There's another site I know, www.shopanyamericanstore.com, though the shipping costs are a little higher.

My First Cooked Meal For The Family

My uncles and grandma came over to my place today and so I decided to cook for them dinner. I have never cooked for anyone else besides for myself, my mum and perhaps him so I was under pressure. My dad perfers to eat Asian/Indian food so my mom cooks that for him since I cannot cook curry. I know, I know, I will learn soon enough. Hence, I decided to whip up Italian for them. So the basic pasta was the main meal. And so I brought out the dishes, and my uncle started saying, "Oh, your presentation is wonderful but can I say the meal itself?" I replied with a mere, "Try it and you'll see." My uncles remarks after tasting it:

1. "Taste better than having it at an Italian restaurant"
2.I feel so blessed that I got to taste my neice's cooking for me for the first time!"
I was so touched.

I got motivated after that fateful occasion that I decided to make my first pavlova. A pavlova always makes the perfect dessert after a meal. It's not heavy and rich. It's just light, sweet and airy. Kids will love this too cos it kind of taste a little like cotton candy. Pictures are below for the steps involved from start to end product.

3 Egg Whites

Whisk them until they form soft peaks. Add in 1 cup of sugar gradually
Followed by 1 tablespoon of corn starch/corn flour
Whisk away until the sugar dissolves.Feel the mixture and make sure its smooth and not lumpy.
Add in 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
Add in a dash of squeezed lemon juice
Line a baking sheet or a baking tin with parchment paper
Use a spatula and transfer the meringue onto the parchment paper. Make a well in the middle as that's where the fruits and cream go. Pre heat the oven first and then place baking tin in. Reduce the temp once tin goes in so the meringue does not burn at the top. Once the timer goes out, leave the tin in to cool off for an hour. It should feel hard on the top and moist on the insides.
Then add your cream and strawberries in the well. I topped mine with lemon sorbet as my grandmother wanted it a little cold to taste. Heh. Well, my first attempt at making a Strawberry Lemon Sorbet Pavlova. It tasted good, perhaps too sweet, so next time not 1 full cup of sugar, but hey at least I did not burn it!

The Weekend We Didnt Go Out

I love supermarkets. It's so peaceful and I really get into my own world sort of thing. So we bought the necessary and off we went home to cook. The main was, carbonara pasta and the entree was tomato soup and butter prawns sprinkled with tyme.

Cause he was such a darling, on both Saturday and Sunday mornings, I woke up and prepared breakfast in bed. Srambled eggs with bacon and ham, followed by tomatoes and mushroom toast.

Kitchen

I am actually thinking of renovating my family kitchen. I live with my parents. I want all black cabinets with a glass or maybe mosaic backsplash equipped with a stainless steel hood, oven and refridegerator. And all electrical appliances to be stainless steel as well. With a glass door to separate the kitchen from the house. My kitchen now is a light apricot peach colour. Yes, blame my parents when they moved in and chose the colour, I was only 17 so I didnt have a say and also couldnt really careless. So now I am thinking of renovating it to look like a contemporary kitchen with an island. I've always wanted an island in the middle. But it would cost me around 10k to get the kitchen done. And I am moving out here in around 2-3 years that is if I do get married, hence there is certainly no point in doing up the ktichen anyway, cause our kitchen still really does look good, just, well, not to my liking.

So I am alternating between these kitchens. What say you?

I love this kitchen. All the white and grey and stainless steel.

A tad too contemporary and basic but all in all, real edgy.

I could not think of a name

My second blog. How quaint. I thought I would never blog again. Guess old habits die hard and relying on that little black book just didnt quite make it, as the scribbles went from nearly perfect just for the first few pages then the words went sky high and never maintained their straight effect any longer. My blog name. Do I like it? I was thinking of letthemeatcake, (qu'ils mangent de la brioche) but I didnt want you thinking that I supported the ignorance of our dear ancient Marie Antoinette. So I guess for now, as girlish as ohyouprettyprettythings maybe, I must admit, it does after all bear a representation of all things me. Yes, I like pretty pretty things, which woman doesnt?
Found this picture on Jessica Helgerson's site. Isnt it simply refreshing? She's an interior designer based in America and her contemporary design speaks wonders. Check out her portfolio at http://jhinteriordesign.com/. I love how the dark wood floors against the space's white and black walls, complement each other. That's how I envision my future home to look like. What say you?

This is another picture which is identical to Jessica's design.
